2015 Nissan Navara: New model range won’t be sold alongside the old model

In recent years there have been two separate Nissan Navara model lines alongside each other in Australia. According to the Japanese company, two different versions of its tough work truck gave buyers more options when it came to choosing the exact variant that suited them. The D22 Nissan Navara was the more basic, price-leading work truck – it […]

Mark Reuss Will Pace Detroit Grand Prix in Corvette Z06

The next round of IndyCar racing kicks off this weekend in Motor City with the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit, and leading the pack will be top bowtie-brass Mark Reuss at the helm of a Corvette Z06. Reuss has had earlier experience as an honorary pace driver, taking up the responsibility previously at the 2013 Dual in Detroit in a 2014 Stingray. He’s also a self-professed lover of motorsports.

“I’m thrilled to drive the Corvette Z06 pace car at this year’s Grand Prix,” Reuss said in a press release. “Growing up here and having the opportunity to help bring this great event to racing fans in Detroit has been very exciting, and the privilege of driving the pace car makes it even more special for me.”

Reuss’ official title may be executive vice president of Global Product Development and Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, but that doesn’t mean he’s just some suit-and-tie stiff – additional items on Reuss’ resume include certification as an industry pool test driver on the North Course of the infamous Nurburgring race track in Germany. Back in 2001, he also created and led GM’s Performance Division, taking responsibility for the firm’s racing vehicles, plus production versions of Chevy’s SS models and the Cadillac V-Series.

The races will take place May 30th and 31st as the only doubleheader for the 2015 IndyCar season.

XCAR Review The Porsche 911 GT3: Video

Reviews of the Type 991 Porsche 911 GT3 are always going to come down to one thing: the transmission. That because the GT3 isn’t offered with a manual transmission anymore, and the purists have been predictably outraged about it. So the fact that XCar titled its GT3 review “Don’t Sweat The Gearbox” shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. To the reviewer’s credit, he manages to cover some other parts of the car first, and though the transmission is the most important part of the review, it’s not the only part.

The closest that a street legal 911 comes to being a race car is the GT3 RS, but the non-RS GT3 isn’t far behind, and as the reviewer points out here, even the “regular” mode for the suspension is what most would consider sport mode. This is one of the big reasons for the PDK instead of a three-pedal manual, it simply shifts faster than a human can; and if you’re really serious about a no-compromises approach to performance, then you have to go with the fastest option. The other big reason for the PDK is that people weren’t buying manuals, simple as that.

Global NCAP slams negative media coverage

The Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) this week slammed Australian media coverage of the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), saying it was “baffled” by a recent spate negative commentary over its protocols. GMs New Infotainment Systems Will Be Offered Starting 2016MY

Apple and Android users will enjoy easier integration between their smartphones and Chevy’s infotainment systems starting with the 2016 model year, as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make its way to 14 different Chevy models. The new software integration will utilize Chevy’s 7-inch MyLink infotainment screens. The 8-inch MyLink screens will be compatible with Apple CarPlay at the beginning of the 2016 model year, while Android Auto is expected to be available on the 8-inch screen some time later in the 2016 model year, following further development and testing.

“For most of us, our smartphones are essential,” said Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, in a press release. “Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.”

So far, vehicles penned for integration using the 7-inch screen include the Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Camaro coupe and convertible, and Silverado light- and heavy-duty. The 8-inch screen integration will be found on the Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Volt, Camaro coupe and convertible, Corvette coupe and convertible, Colorado, Silverado light- and heavy-duty, Tahoe, and Suburban.

Chevy also plans on bringing this new integration to markets outside the U.S., including Brazil, Mexico and Canada. You can find more information regarding Android Auto market availability here and Apple CarPlay market availability here.

Cadillac Denies The LS7-Powered ATS-V+

It’s amazing how in a few hours a rumor can go from all but confirmed to completely denied. Well, this is exactly what happened with the LS7 V-8-powered ATS-V+, as it began as a report from an insider, but just hours later, Cadillac completely denied the model will ever exist.

The latest report is courtesy of Motor Authority, who spoke with Cadillac communication manager, David Caldwell, regarding this hotter version of the ATS-V. In the conversation, Caldwell made it very clear that there are no plans to put a larger, more powerful engine under the hood of the ATS-V.

He said, “The ATS-V we have today is supremely capable—so much so that it’s unlikely to receive a larger or different engine in the foreseeable future.” When asked specifically about the V-8 engine, he said, “Yes, we have another car coming that will take care of this beautifully, that being the CTS-V.”

Cadillac’s reasoning for this, according to Caldwell, is that the brand doesn’t want the ATS-V to just be a smaller version of the CTS-V. It wants them to have distinct differences, and the turbo V-6 in the ATS-V and supercharged V-8 in the CTS-V are large parts of these differences. Additionally, he said that the twin-turbo V-6 makes the smaller sibling more approachable than the CTS-V, opening the door for less-performance-driven owners.

So, while the ATS-V+ was a fun rumor while it lasted, we now have a pretty clear-cut answer on whether this model is real or just vaporware. From the sounds of it, it is a lot more of the latter.

2015 BMW X5 M v Porsche Cayenne Turbo : Comparison Review

Traditionally, the sportscar concept embraced lightness and simplicity – a less is more approach. Increasingly, though, the makers of the BMW X5 M from Munich and Porsche Cayenne Turbo from Stuttgart – together with Affalterbach arch rival Mercedes-AMG – threaten to burst the conventional ‘sportiness’ pigeonhole at the seams plying extensive feature lists, excess in […]

2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV Review

Confession time: The Lamborghini Aventador is not my favourite car from the Italian supercar manufacturer. I’m not sure if it would even rank in my top-five. Mitsubishi Boss Confirms EVO Name Could Return on the ASX

We were all saddened by the death of the Lancer Evolution, but a new report claims that Lance Bradley, head of Mitsubishi U.K., said that the Evo nameplate may see use on a hot SUV in the near future.

According to the report from Auto Express, the head of Mitsubishi’s U.K. arm says that the company is doing quite well financially, and can now afford to take risks. One big risk on the table is using the next-generation ASX crossover as the basis for a new Evolution model.

The new ASX, which will draw its design inspiration from the XR PHEV Concept, is set to debut next year in its standard setup, but a two-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid model will also hit the market shortly after. From the latter is where Bradley feels the Evolution could be born, as the brand can use technology from the i-MiEV Evolution II Pikes Peak racecar to make this timid SUV quite the performer.

In regards to taking a risk with an Evolution-badged SUV, Bradley said, “When you’re not making money, there are things you can’t do. When you are making money you can do things that are good for the brand, but won’t necessarily make that much money. We’re not at a point where it’ll definitely happen, but we’ve got a lot of senior management talking about it.”

Reading between the lines of that quote, I feel that we are at a pivotal point for the ASX Evolution. My fingers are crossed that senior management will see the value in keeping the Evo name alive and competing in the niche performance SUV segment.

Audi R8 E-Tron Piloted Driving Concept

Earlier this year, Audi released the revamped 2016 R8 R8 e-tron, and at the 2015 CES Asia show, it released a self-driving version of the electric supercar dubbed the R8 e-tron Piloted Driving Concept.

One of the biggest concerns among gearheads when it comes to self-driving cars is that the fun of driving will be taken away. Well, when it comes to this insane concept supercar, there is plenty of fun to go around, thanks to its sub-four-second 0-to-60 time and agility. What’s more, its range rivals the likes of the Tesla Model S, and it looks cooler.

Unfortunately, this is just a concept car for now, but at the rate Audi is putting out these piloted concept models (read our reviews of the RS7 piloted driving concept here and the Prologue piloted driving concept here), it seems like this tech is on the verge of making it to showrooms.

Continue reading to learn more about this high-tech concept that debuted at the 2016 CES Asia show.

Pre-Owned Tesla Model S Start From $55,000

Anyone interested in getting their hands on Tesla’s universally acclaimed all-electric sports car will be happy to know that certified pre-owned Model S vehicles will be available for as low as $55,000. The used cars are available through Tesla’s website here, and serve American markets in Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Florida, Hawaii, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle, and Washington DC.

The American automaker launched its CPO program on its website earlier this month, forgoing the usual round of high-profile Tesla fanfare. You can browse the selection of used Model S vehicles, refining for market area, color, and model. Available models include the 60 kWh, 85 kWh, and high-end P85.

At launch, the least-expensive model available was somewhere in the $65,000 range. Now, cheaper models are making their way online. The number of available CPO Model S’s is expected to increase substantially over the course of the second half of 2015, as the first round of cars see an end to their three-year leases. According to Autoguide, it appears as though future pre-owned vehicles will be added with a price floor set at $55,000.

Each CPO Model S undergoes a 200+ point inspection and is offered with a remaining battery and drive warranty, plus a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty. Each car comes with a CarFax history report in the U.S. and 24-hour roadside assistance throughout the warranty period. Each CPO vehicle requires a $1,000 deposit. All of the cars are available for pickup, but Telsa will ship it to your nearest service center for a fee of up to $1,500. Each car comes directly from the company, circumventing the need for a dealer.
